History Of the Pride Revolution – A Lecture That Is Also Straight Friendly
There’s no doubt that the LGBT community plays a significant part in both global and national mainstream culture. Voguing, RuPaul, drag and many other examples of mainstream LGBT+ culture began in the underground, relating to identities, minorities, and social activism.
The Pride Revolution, as we know it today, happened about 50 years ago with the outbreak of the Stonewall riots. But in fact, the LGBT community has always existed at different times and places throughout history.
In our lecture we will go through a journey, which combines a variety of videos and music, we will explore and discover the roots of the development of the LGBT identities, and the pride communities. We will learn the basics that will allow us to approach and understand in a much better way people from the pride communities around us (friends, relatives, teachers, colleagues at work and more).
What makes this lecture very special and unique is that it breaks stigmas and myths, and is suitable for audiences who are not necessarily familiar with the LGBT communities and culture. Yet, this lecture is crucial for anyone who might have connection or relations with LGBT+ persons.
The content is dedicated to the LGBT+ communities, yet we are Straight Friendly 😊 Thus, this lecture is important to every person.
"It was fascinating, we learned and discovered things about ourselves that we had no idea how important it was, and it left us with a desire for more."

Parade in Decline: LGBT Life in Turkey – Mustafa Sarıyılmaz
The LGBT community in Turkey used to have one of the biggest pride parades in the region, but in recent years political changes have affected the community directly. It is no longer legal to organize the pride parade and other events, and the country has even stopped participating in the Eurovision Song Contest due to Conchita’s win. Yet life goes on, and the local underground scenes are thriving. Join us for a talk with the local LGBT Turkish activist, Mustafa Sarıyılmaz.
